The National Network of Hospital-based Violence Intervention Programs (NNHVIP) honored Michael Texada with the Willis Young Award. This award was given in recognition of Michael's commitment to breaking the cycle of violence in his community. Michael currently serves as The Wraparound Project's Supervising Case Manager and has worked tirelessly for over a decade to stem violence in his community and the larger San Francisco area. In addition to providing transformative services to individuals who have already suffered a violent injury, Michael facilitates peer-counseling sessions for high-risk youth who have not yet been injured. He also works with various city agencies providing input on issues such as safety transfers. In all his efforts, Michael has consistently gone above and beyond the call of duty for his clients. In presenting the award, Dr. Rochelle Dicker said, "Mike doesn't just take clients on, he takes them in" - an apt summary of Michael's approach to helping victims of violent injury.
